Gorse Mill Studios Artist Karen Krieger Featured in R.I Exhibition

Needham Artist's Ink Painting Selected for Award in National Juried Exhibition at the Rhode Island Art Club

Needham Artist Karen Krieger’s mixed media ink painting, “Descending Moons”, is featured in the Providence Art Club’s Annual National Open Juried Exhibition which will be up through July 19th at the Maxwell Mays and Mary Castelnovo Galleries on 11 Thomas Street, in Providence, RI. This annual National Juried exhibition celebrates the best in contemporary art. The Providence Art Club was founded in 1880 and is one of the oldest arts organizations in the nation.

This year’s juror was Michelle Millar Fisher, the Ronald C. and Anita L. Wornick Curator of Contemporary Decorative Arts within the Contemporary Art Department at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Ms. Millar Fisher selected 65 works from more than 1000 entries and Karen Krieger’s
artwork “Descending Moons”, received one of five awards of merit.

"Descending Moons" is a meditation on the ever-present phenomenon of change in nature, both terrestrial and celestial. Krieger’s unique approach invites an interplay of elements to convey
the deceptive appearance of permanence alongside the transient and ephemeral qualities of the natural and celestial worlds. Krieger paints directly onto traditional Xuan (rice) paper using Chinese ink as a point of departure and incorporating a variety of additional painting mediums and techniques. This approach allows for Krieger to capture the spiritual depth of nature, focusing
on mood and atmosphere rather than specific details.
