Needham Sprinter Sets Matches One Record, Breaks Another

NEEDHAM, MA — Neither of Davonte Burnett's races at Sunday's MSTCA Coaches Invitational were perfect but you wouldn't realize that by looking at the results sheet.

The Needham High School senior ran 6.34 in the 55-meter dash and 34.16 in the 300-meter dash. Despite some stumbles, the first time matched the state record while the second time set a new state record, according to the Needham Times.

The mark in the 55 puts Burnett at the top of the national high school rankings.

Burnett's next elite race will be the scholastic 60-meter dash at the New Balance Grand Prix on Feb. 7.
