NEEDHAM, MA — One Needham senior earned a $2,500 scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. The NMSC judges high school students based on their PSATs, and awards a number of scholarships in their senior year.

Alexandra Gorham, who attends the Windsor School in Boston, was awarded. She plans to study biomedical engineering.

The NMSC announced corporate scholarship winners in April. Two students — Harvard Wang and Lance Zhang — won and received funding from Norfolk Southern and Pfizer Inc., respectively.

Winners of the college-sponsored scholarships will be announced on June 2 and July 12.

"National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners are the Finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies," the announcement says. "The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors."
