New Plan For Housing Development Near Wellesley-Needham Line

A 12-home subdivision could soon become a 40+ condo complex.

A subdivision of 12 single-family homes could become a condominium complex, the developer recently said in a letter.

The developer of the project, located at 135 Great Plain Ave. in Wellesley near the Needham town line, is looking to build 44 condos in a town house and duplex style, the Boston Globe reports. Peter D. Crabtree, Northland Residential Corp. vice president for acquisitions and development, told Wellesley officials in a letter that rising costs have made the single-home plan one that is not economically viable.

Under the state's 40B affordable housing law, 11 of the units would be affordable. The property would be targeted at older residents looking to downsize.
