OUI Arrest, Hit And Run: Needham Police Log

Take a look at some of the calls that came into the Needham Police Department.

NEEDHAM, MA — Here's a sample of some types of calls the Needham Police Department respond to each day from the police logs, which are public. No arrests were made last week but multiple incidents were reported.

Arrests do not imply conviction and just because someone reports a crime does not mean it happened that way.

Tuesday, Feb. 4

6:30 p.m: An officer conducted a traffic stop for an expired registration on Chapel Street. The registered owner of the car, a 53-year-old man from Needham, will be summoned to Court for operating a MV with a suspended license and having an expired registration.

10:50 p.m.: An officer was flagged down by a person that reported a car crash at the intersection of Rosemary Street and Highland Avenue. The car went down the embankment that led to the Sudbury Farms parking lot. The car appeared to be leaning heavily on its left side. As a result of the crash and subsequent investigation, a 55-year-old Needham man will be charged with OUI and several other motor vehicle violations.

Wednesday, Feb. 5

11:00 a.m.: An officer conducted a motor vehicle stop near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Charles Street. The driver, a 24-year-old Waltham man, was cited for attaching wrong motor vehicle plates, operating without insurance and operating an un-insured motor vehicle. The driver will be summoned to Dedham District Court for the violations.

1:40 p.m.: An officer spoke with a Needham resident about a suspicious e-mail that she received. The e-mail purported to be from a legitimate company offering computer virus removal. The company accessed the computer and accessed all the banking and credit information that was available. The person involved took all necessary precautions and made all the correct notifications after it was learned that the e-mail was a scam and a virus was not actually on the computer.

4:50 p.m.: An officer stopped a car on Highland Ave for an expired inspection sticker. The registration was determined to be revoked for insurance cancellation. The license plates were seized, the car inventoried and towed and the driver was cited for an inspection violation, operating an uninsured vehicle and driving an unregistered car.

6:40 p.m.: Needham Police conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Great Plain Avenue and the Dedham Line. After a brief investigation the driver , a 29-year-old woman from Randolph, will be summonsed to Dedham District Court for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License.

Thursday, Feb. 6

2:15 p.m: An officer was dispatched to the intersection of Great Plain Avenue and Marked Tree for a report of a disturbance on a school bus. The incident was documented.

Friday, Feb. 7

3:00 p.m.: An officer responded to a Chestnut Street business for a past disturbance. The person stated that another person at the business was talking angrily at her. All people involved agreed to keep their distance. There was no further issue.

6:35 p.m.: Two people walked into the station to report a hit and run. At approximately 3:00 p.m. the victim was crossing on the crosswalk on Webster Street by Holland Street at the same time a man crossing from the opposite direction on the crosswalk. A car, described as a small SUV with a New Hampshire license plate, stopped when the man was crossing but continued to drive while the victim was in the crosswalk causing the car to brush against his leg. He was not hurt. The driver was a woman with blonde hair, possibly in her 40's.

8:15 p.m.: A car was stopped for speeding on West Street. Upon further investigation, a 30-year-old man from Framingham was summons to court for unlicensed operation as well as speeding.

9:10 p.m.: A car was stopped on Highland Ave with an uninsured registration status. A 32-year-old man from Walpole was summons to court for an uninsured car, driving after revocation, and failure to notify the RMV of an address change.

Saturday, Feb. 8

12:00 p.m.: An officer took a walk-in report of lost property. The person stated that on 02/07/2020 he lost his wallet at a Kendrick Avenue address. A report was filed.

12:15 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a Wexford Street business for the report of a past breaking and entering. The matter is currently under investigation.

7:40 p.m.: A Warren Street resident walked into HQ to report a past fraud. The person stated that years ago, (09/15/15) someone transferred his credit card number to another card and made a charge. The person contacted Equifax and no other charges were made.

9:50 p.m.: An officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Wexford Street. Following a brief investigation, the operator the vehicle, a 21-year-old Waltham woman, was summoned to court for operating a vehicle with a revoked registration and uninsured operation of a motor vehicle.

Sunday, Feb. 9

8:15 p.m.: An officer stopped a motor vehicle on Highland Ave. After a brief investigation, a 42-year-old Rhode Island man was issued a summons to Dedham District Court for Operation after Suspension.

2:50 a.m. Officers were dispatched a B Street Hotel for a report of a disturbance. One of the people present (a 32-year-old Billerica woman) appeared to be intoxicated and was placed into protective custody pursuant to M.G.L. Chapter 111B and brought to the Needham Police Department.

10:00 a.m.: An officer conducted a traffic stop on Highland Ave. After brief investigation, the operator, a 21-year-old Needham resident was placed under arrest on a warrant.
