Texas Man Charged With Assault In Needham

The man was carrying a shovel in town and yelling while destroying property, police said.

NEEDHAM, MA — A 20-year-old Texas man was arrested in Needham on Friday after police said he was destroying property with a shovel.

Needham police were called to Highland Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Friday for a report of a man with a shovel yelling and destroying signs on a nearby property. The man wasn't on Highland Avenue when police got there but officers later found him on West Street.

Police said an assault happened a short distance from the property where they were originally called — police did not release details of the assault. The 20-year-old Texas man was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, malicious destruction of property and threats to commit a crime.
