2 Men Charged In Theft Of 1,000 Mail Pieces In Newton, Wellesley

NEWTON, MA — A New York man and Massachusetts man appeared in Newton District Court on Monday to face charges after police said they recovered more than 1,000 pieces of stolen mail from a vehicle the men crashed in Brookline after fleeing a traffic stop in Newton early morning.

Newton police said an officer spotted a vehicle being followed for suspected mail theft in Wellesley at about 4 a.m. on Monday and attempted to conduct a stop near Hammond Pond Parkway. Police said that the driver sped away from the traffic stop toward Brookline and was found crashed on Newton Street in Brookline a short time later.

Police said there was a brief foot pursuit before the two men in the car, Yasser Teixeira Mendonca of New York and Dahshein Karon Perry of Massachusetts, were caught and charged with receiving stolen property and failure to stop for police.
