NEWTON, MA — On July 10, the Carroll Center for the Blind hosted a special visit by Erik Weihenmayer, a world-class adventurer, author and motivational speaker who was the first blind person to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 2001.

Weihenmayer, who lost his vision at age 14, shared his passion for pursuing exhilarating life experiences with a group of young students with vision loss who are participating in the Carroll Center’s residential summer program.

The visit to the Carroll Center marked a return to the place where Weihenmayer, who also led the youths in team-building exercises, was introduced to rock climbing at age 16 when he attended summer camp at the Carroll Center in the mid-1980s.
