Late Night Eating May Trigger Bowel Cancer

Safe eating ends 3 hours before bedtime.

Eating within 3 hours of bedtime makes you 46% more likely to develop colon adenomatous polyps that can be pre-cancerous lesions in 5-10% of cases. This from Chicago’s Rush University Medical College investigators who surveyed 664 colonoscopy patients.

The data showed that late eaters were 5.5 fold more likely than those avoiding any but early evening meals to have 3 or more of these pre-cancerous polyps.

The take home point: don’t be regularly wolfing down your evening meal 3 or fewer hours before hitting the sack. Not only will your bowels thank you, but so too will your esophagus. You will be less likely to suffer from reflux-associated heartburn if your stomach has plenty of time to empty..
