A lot of has changed over the past year, but one of the biggest changes we are seeing is the rise in home remodeling. It’s been the year of rolling up our sleeves and focusing on all the projects we wanted to finish. On average we are seeing a 100% increase from home owners who want to remodel. The main reasons we are hearing for home remodeling are the need for better functionality, more space, more storage, an updated design that fits their personality, and in general homeowners want a space that fits their lifestyle. And let’s face it, the new normal is spending more time at home for both adults and children. So, let’s take a look at three on-trend looks and innovative design features we are seeing in home remodeling. Stayed tuned each month for more trends in home remodeling.

Improved Functionality

Functionality is the most important criteria for any great design. Today we are seeing trends including accessibility between rooms such as the kitchen, living and dining room. This includes creating a connection while still denoting it as a separate space or blending design elements from one space to the next. And, one thing that will never change is improving the walking path between kitchen appliances – this is a must for functionality.

After (Functional separation but also connects the two spaces)
Before (different level floors, lack of connection between spaces)

More Storage

Stuff, stuff and more stuff but nowhere to put it all – this is where storage comes in. Creative storage solutions are a rising trend and will definitely continue. Gone are the days of stuffing things in your cabinets and closets. Instead, we are seeing a shift to entire walls of storage, islands with storage, storage cabinets for small appliances, and even hidden storage behind walls.

Open Spaces

One thing is clear, open spaces are still one of the biggest design trends. By opening up spaces, you increase site lines, allow light to expand through from one space to another, and create a sense of connection between rooms and people.
