Last month, we shared three of latest home trends and features we are seeing in home remodeling; better functionality, more space, and more storage. Now let’s take a look three more on-trend looks and innovative design features we are seeing – Sunrooms and Porches, Lighting, and Kitchen Islands. Stayed tuned each month for more trends in home remodeling.

The old standard porches and sunrooms no longer satisfy todays’ homeowner. Instead, creating functional outdoor space that is an extension of your home, as well as sunrooms that can be used during multiple seasons throughout the year are the latest trends. From outdoor gas fireplaces to smart technology, to sliding doors that bring the outdoors in, expect a dramatic upgrade to porches and sunrooms.

Lighting

Good lighting changes and transforms a space. We use light and shade to make a room feel comfortable but also dramatic and atmospheric. Trends in lighting include dimmers, recessed lighting, more windows and doors so light can shine through, and smart technology.

Before (Dark and traditional)

Kitchen Islands

With larger kitchens, the kitchen island has become an essential feature. Not only does it add plenty of prep space, but there is room for ample storage, seating, and congregating while entertaining. We are even seeing islands with attached dining tables and a pair of islands becoming an expansive addition when space is no object.

After (Dual modern islands)
Before (closed off rooms before wall was open and expanded to kitchen)
