Live Music, Arts Festival Returns To Newton

NEWTON, MA — Festivals have returned to Newton.

Newton Community Pride's annual Linda Plaut Newton Festival of the Arts, which was put on hold last year because of the pandemic, is on this weekend. This is the sixth time the festival has been held in town, since it started in 2015.

"Live music and performances are back and now more than ever our community is looking forward to the joy music and the arts can bring” said Newton Community Pride Board Chair Gloria Gavris in a statement.

There will be live, free music at three different locations in Waban, West Newton and Newton Highlands.

Organizers said the point is to showcase Newton’s music and cultural talent again. Music will span several genres of music from blues to baroque, classical guitar to opera and jazz.

Newton Community Pride, a nonprofit organization with no affiliation with the city is organizing the festival.

"All of us are looking forward to gathering together in person once again," said Mayor Ruthanne Fuller in a statement. "It's especially sweet this year to listen to music, storytelling and more with an exceptional schedule of performances."

The festival begins at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and ends both evenings at 7 p.m.
