Margaret Whiting, Newton High Graduate, Worked for Digital, Dies at 89

Services are this week.

Margaret Rita (Whalen) Whiting, 89, of Sudbury, died Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Oakdale Rehabilitation in West Boylston.

Margaret was born July 27, 1926 in Somerville, a daughter of Joseph and Lillian (Gaudette) Whalen. She graduated from Newton High School and was a resident of Sudbury for nearly 60 years.

Many years ago, she was employed by the Marian Heath Greeting Cards Company. She later worked for Digital Equipment Corp. for 25 years until her retirement in the late 1980s.

Margaret is survived by her sons, William R. Whiting, Jr. and his wife Victoria of Princeton, Peter E. Whiting and his wife Sylvie of Leominster; 5 grandchildren, Matthew and Dillon Whiting both of Leominster, Stefanie Whiting of Sterling, Elizabeth Dow and her husband Garry of Pomfret, CT,

Meaghan Murwin and her husband William of Holden; 3 great grandchildren, Margaret and William Murwin, Henry Dow; many nieces and nephews; also her best friend, Natalie Keefe of Newton.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, William R. Whiting, in 2005; also by her siblings, Mary Ann Marini and J. Malcolm Whalen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 10 at 8AM from the Duckett – J. S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Road, Sudbury.

Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 9 from 4-7PM at the funeral home.
