Newton Chef Nominated For James Beard Foundation Award

Williams is one of 19 chefs across the country who have been nominated for the award.

NEWTON MA — Chef Douglas Williams, owner of MIDA in Newtonville and Boston’s South End, has been nominated for the Outstanding Chef award from the James Beard Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating, supporting, and elevating the people behind America’s food culture.

Williams is one of 19 chefs across the country who have been nominated for the award. The winners will be announced at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony in Chicago on Monday, June 1.

The James Beard Foundation’s Restaurant and Chef Awards were established in 1991 and is one of five separate recognition programs.

The Chef Leadership Award nominees are chosen via an Open Call for recommendations, in addition to recommendations provided by the award program’s voting body. These recommendations are reviewed and considered by an award program subcommittee.
