Newton Expected To Get 8-12 Inches Of Snow Friday

The city has declared a parking ban and many municipal offices and public buildings will be closed.

NEWTON, MA — The City of Newton has declared snow emergency ahead of Friday, Feb. 25, when the area is expected to get 8 to 12 inches of snow.

A parking ban will go into effect on Friday, Feb. 25 at 12:01 a.m. No cars can be parked on the street, in municipal parking lots, or in school parking lots to allow DPW crews and contractors to plow effectively. If left on the street or in these parking lots, cars will be towed.

The city will post on the City website at newtonma.gov when the snow emergency parking ban will be lifted. The following closures will also be in place due to the storm:

  • City Hall will be closed Friday, Feb. 25.
  • Newton Free Library will be closed on Friday. Check newtonma.gov to see if the library will open on Saturday.
  • Newton Senior Center will be closed on Friday.
  • Newton Public Schools: All vacation week activities are cancelled for Friday.
  • Resource Recover Center at Rumford Avenue will be closed on Friday andSaturday.
  • NewMo will not operate on Friday.
  • Parks, Recreation and Culture programming will be cancelled on Friday.

In addition, trash and recycling pickup in Newton is cancelled for Friday. With the Monday holiday earlier this week, the Thursday route normally would have been collected on Friday, and the Friday route was expected to be collected on Saturday.

However, due to the storm, the Thursday route will not be collected this week, and the Friday route will be collected on Saturday.
