Newton Food Pantry In Need Of Delivery Volunteers

Several volunteer slots are open in December and many are open in January.

NEWTON, MA — Newton Food Pantry, the city's oldest and largest food pantry, is in need of volunteers to help deliver food and supplies to families in need who are unable to get to local pantries themselves.

Several volunteer slots are open in December and many are open in January. Each delivery takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes to complete.

Here is the delivery schedule:

  • Every Wednesday afternoon from Newton Food Pantry, pick up food at assigned delivery times, every 30 minutes from 12:15 to 2:45 p.m.
  • The third Friday of the month from the American Legion Nonantum Post 440 Mobile Food Bank, pick up food from 9 to 9:15 a.m.
  • The third Saturday of the month from Centre Street Food Pantry, pick up food at assigned delivery times between 12 and 2 p.m.

Newton Food Pantry will also be holding a diaper drive on Friday, Jan. 7 and Saturday, Jan. 8 in response to the 70 percent spike in demand at local and national diaper banks.

Curbside dropoff of diapers and baby wipes will take place at the Newton City Hall War Memorial Circle, located at 1000 Commonwealth Avenue, from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. The pantry especially needs diaper sizes 6 and 7.
