Newton Mourning Loss Of Police Captain William Spalding

NEWTON, MA — The City of Newton has announced that Captain William L. Spalding of the Newton Police Department died unexpectedly on Wednesday.

Spalding was a 25-year veteran of the Newton PD, who began his career there in April of 1998.

The department said Spalding is survived by his wife and three children.

In a statement, Newton Police Chief John Carmichael called Spalding a well-respected veteran who will be deeply missed by the department and community.

"As word of this tragedy has spread throughout our department, Newton and the Framingham communities, we are grateful and honored to experience the outpouring of support for Captain Spalding and his family," Carmichael said in the statement. "As we continue to mourn his loss, we ask that our community comes together to support those that knew and loved him."

A department spokesperson told Patch that the Spalding family has not yet released details about a funeral.
