NEWTON, MA — A Newton restaurant celebrated its successful participation in DoorDash's Main Street Strong Accelerator Boston program at a first-ever graduation event Monday at the WPI Seaport.

Corner Café Newton, a small breakfast and lunch spot on Washington Street, is one of 17 restaurants selected to be part of the Boston cohort. Over the course of eight weeks, each restaurant received a $20,000 grant, one-on-one guidance and coaching, and the opportunity to network with other local restaurant owners.

The Main Street Strong Accelerator program, designed to help businesses stabilize from the pandemic and adapt their business for the long-term, is part of the DoorDash's pledge to empower local communities by supporting entrepreneurship and access for historically under-resourced business owners.

“We’ve seen how entrepreneurs of color often have less access to financial resources or business and professional opportunities as their counterparts,” said Tasia Hawkins, Social Impact Program Lead at DoorDash, in a statement. “At DoorDash, our hope is that all members of the communities we serve have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential – that’s why today, we’re so proud to celebrate the accomplishments of these 17 businesses and support their efforts to both grow their restaurants and better their communities.”
