Newton Weather Caution: Wind Advisory

The advisory is for Thursday and warns of potentially damaging winds across Massachusetts.

NEWTON, MA — Another round of strong winds in Newton this week could knock out power.

Newton - and all of Eastern and Southeastern Massachusetts - was placed under a wind advisory Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Gust will hit 50 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. The strongest winds are forecast in the afternoon and power outages are possible.

Driving high-profile vehicles could be difficult, NWS said.

Here's the NWS wind advisory:

  • A WIND ADVISORY...REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 8 PM EDT THURSDAY.
  • LOCATIONS...INCLUDE EASTERN AND SOUTHEASTERN MASSACHUSETTS INCLUDING THE ISLANDS...AS WELL AS ALL OF RHODE ISLAND.
  • WINDS...SOUTHWEST 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH.
  • TIMING...DEVELOPING THURSDAY MORNING AND PERSISTING INTO THE EVENING HOURS. STRONGEST WINDS AROUND MIDDAY INTO AFTERNOON.
  • IMPACTS...INCLUDE THE POTENTIAL FOR DOWNED LIMBS AND POWER OUTAGES. DRIVING CHALLENGES FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.
