NEWTON, MA – Newton-Wellesley Hospital has been named one of the best hospitals in the United States for the fifth straight year by Newsweek.

Newton-Wellesley ranked 85th out of 414 American hospitals rated on the publication’s U.S.-based list. The hospital has ranked among the top 90 hospitals in the country since the rankings’ inception.

“To once again be named among the top 100 hospitals in the nation is an amazing achievement,” Ellen Moloney, president and chief operating officer of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, said in a news release. “This is a testament to our outstanding employees’ unwavering commitment to providing excellent care for our patients and nobly serving our community.”

The hospital also performed “above average” in its infection prevention measures, according to Newsweek.

The rankings debuted in 2019, and were compiled by market and consumer data company Statista. In the 2023 edition, 28 countries and over 2,300 hospitals were featured in total – the most extensive and international edition to date.

Every hospital in each country was rated by a score, which is based on four data sources: recommendations from medical experts (doctors, hospitals managers, health care professionals), patient satisfaction data, hospital quality metrics, and Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) implementation surveys.

“The world's best hospitals consistently attract the best people and provide the best outcomes for patients as well as the most important new therapies and research. Of all the hospitals in the world, relatively few can do all those things year in and year out. The best belong to a very exclusive club,” Nancy Cooper, global editor in chief of Newsweek, said on the publication’s website.
