Newton: Wind Advisory Wednesday Night Into Thursday

A brief period of sustained south winds of 20 to 30 mph with a few gusts between 40 and 50 mph is anticipated, according to NWS.

A local wind advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday evening to 10 a.m. Thursday morning for Newton, as well as other towns in the area.

The National Weather Service issued the alert for South Central and Northeast Massachusetts, in addition to Northwest Rhode Island and Northern Connecticut.

Residents can expect these winds to occur during heavy showers and thunderstorms. There’s also a low risk for gusts reaching 60 mph in the event a strong thunderstorm develops.

During winds this strong, there is the risk of downed trees and power outages. Driving can also be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
