Obituary: Walter Borek Sr., 99, of West Newton

Walter was a World War II veteran and had a passion for woodworking. He lived in West Newton for more than 60 years.

NEWTON, MA – Walter Borek, Sr., of West Newton, died suddenly Monday morning February 20th in his home at the age of 99.

Born on September 12, 1917 in Medway; Walter has been a West Newton resident for more than 60 years. He was a graduate of Medway High School.

Walter proudly served with the United States Army during World War II.

He was the General Manager of Tom Lyons Corporation retail automotive store in Waltham where he was employed for 50 years.

Walter was a life member of the Waltham Lodge of Elks B.P.O.E. #953

.Throughout his life he had a passion for woodworking in his spare time. Almost always you could find Walter everyday working in his basement of some woodworking project.

He had a love for baseball; not only playing but watching in his later years. He was a member of the minor league Saint Joseph’s Men Club.

Walter experienced the most joy and greatest happiness when playing with his grandchildren and spending time with his family.

He was the son of the late Valente & Joseffa ( Tenza ) Borek and the brother of the late Sophie Rosetti, Helen Tondorf, Albert Borek & Edward Borek. He is survived by his devoted and loving companion of more than 50 years Olive “Ollie” LaBranche, his children Alice Doyle and her husband George of Lakeville, Robert Borek of Reading, Walter W. Borek Jr., & his wife Jenny of PA., Nancy LaBranche, Peter LaBranche & Larry LaBranche all of Newton and the late Gary LaBranche. In addition he leaves 8 Grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many Nieces & Nephews.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Walter’s Life from the Mary Catherine Chapel of the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham on Monday morning Feb. 27th at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting Hours will be in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons on Sunday Feb. 26th from 2 - 5 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
