Quincy Middle School Student Brought Gun To School: Officials

The seventh-grade student was expelled from Central Middle School after the incident Tuesday afternoon, school officials said.

QUINCY, MA — A seventh-grade student was expelled from Central Middle School in Quincy after bringing an unloaded handgun to school Tuesday, the Quincy superintendent of schools Kevin W. Mulvey, J.D. said in a letter shared online.

The student showed the gun to several students outside after school was dismissed, Mulvey said.

According to the Quincy Police Department, the student was able to take the gun from their parent since it was unsecured, Mulvey said. The student’s parents were immediately notified and police went to the student’s home to seize the gun.

"I am shocked and saddened that this student’s dangerous actions jeopardized their own health and well-being and those of their classmates and school staff," Mulvey wrote in the letter.

Teachers and guidance staff will be meeting with students on Wednesday to discuss the incident, Mulvey said, adding that he, his leadership team, and police will be at Central Middle School after school Wednesday to answer questions for families.

"I am very thankful for the actions of the students who reported this incident, how quickly our administrators and the Quincy Police Department responded, and the thoroughness of the investigation," Mulvey said.
