Roslindale Resident Is New School Committee Member

Alexandra Oliver-Davila was recently sworn in by Mayor Marty Walsh.

ROSLINDALE, MA - Roslindale resident Alexandra Oliver-Davila was recently sworn in to her first term as a School Committee member by Mayor Marty Walsh.

Oliver-Davila has been the executive director of Sociedad Latina Inc. for 17 years and has strongly advocated for Latino youth, Wicked Local reported.

“For more than 20 years, Alex has worked to create a community that supports young people, values their contributions and believes in their ability to create positive social change,” said Sociedad Latina President Marta Rivera in a statement, according to Wicked Local. “We are delighted that she will become the second Latino on this committee, bringing a much needed boost in diversity to city boards.”

Oliver-Davila spoke specifically about the move to close West Roxbury Academy last year, saying it would be important to get feedback from the local community before any concrete decisions are made, Wicked Local reported.

Some suggestions the new committee member has for improving local schools are to allow students to earn credit through internships and move forward with the Build BPS: A 10-Year Educational and Facilities Master Plan, Wicked Local reported. She is also concerned about students having time to learn.
