From a post Astin wrote on his blog #Run3rd:

I never could have imagined that I’d get to run Boston. In order to qualify, I’d have to shave over an hour off of my best marathon time. Eeeek! As fate would have it, Dave McGillivray, Boston Marathon Race Director, invited me to join Team MR8 and run on behalf of young Martin Richard and the amazing foundation that his parents established in his honor.

Astin started the #Run3rd campaign on Twitter in January 2012 to “share runners’ dedications made on behalf of people’s loved ones, causes and ideas.”

  • Next celebrity runner is actress and Medfield, Mass. native Uzo Aduba. The “Orange Is the New Black” star said to People that running the marathon ”feels like the right thing to do.” Aduba raised more than her $4,000 goal for the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge. She raised money specifically for the institute’s Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research, which studies potential molecular and genetic causes of cancer.

Aduba took to Instagram to show off her jersey:
