Salem State Campus Closures Extended To Second Day On Tuesday

A boiler plant system failure forced many classes on campus to go virtual on Monday and Tuesday.

Day and evening classes, as well as offices, went online once again on Tuesday for those involving Meier Hall, Sullivan Building, Sophia Gordon Center and the first floor of the Administration Building.

SALEM, MA — For a second straight day on Tuesday, many Salem State University students and staff are attending classes and working remotely because of an ongoing boiler plant system issue at the school's North Campus.

Day and evening classes, as well as offices, went online once again on Tuesday for those involving Meier Hall, Sullivan Building, Sophia Gordon Center and the first floor of the Administration Building.

Other buildings and spaces on the North Campus were said to be functioning normally, according to facilities officials.

SSU Vice President for Finance and Facilities Karen House said in a message to the school community on Sunday night that winter temperatures spurred the decision to shift the classes and offices online because the buildings lacked sufficient heat.

Salem State planned further updates for the rest of the week on Tuesday afternoon.
