Salem State University Goes Virtual For Most Classes On Monday

A boiler plant issue discovered over the weekend forces day and evening classes on the North Campus to go online.

SALEM, MA — Salem State University shifted most in-person day and evening classes held on the North Campus online on Monday because of what a facilities official called a boiler plant issue discovered over the weekend.

The school said the change affected classes and offices in Meier Hall, Sullivan Building, Sophia Gordon Center and the first floor of the Administration Building.

Buildings that were to remain open and operational for classes and other activities including the Berry Library and Learning Commons, Ellison Campus Center, North Campus Cafe and the second floor of the Administration Building finance and FYE departments on the second floor.

"I apologize for this disruption and inconvenience, but with the dropping temperatures, I want to ensure a safe teaching environment," SSU Vice President for Finance and Facilities Karen House said in a message to the school community.

Students and staff were advised to check the school website for updates on Tuesday classes.
