SHREWSBURY, MA — Students from Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School's metal fabrication program have completed work on the town's new Sept. 11 memorial, which will eventually stand in front of the new police station.

The students handed off the memorial to Shrewsbury police on Thursday. The memorial, made from steel taken from the former World Trade Center site, will be kept in storage until the new police station opens.

“We cannot thank the students and staff from Assabet High School enough," Shrewsbury Chief Kevin Anderson said in a Facebook post. "We are humbled by their generosity and impressive creativity and skills that it took to create this piece for our town. This memorial will be a solemn tribute to the victims of the 9/11 attacks, and be displayed here so Shrewsbury residents can appreciate the memorial for years to come."
