Eleanor Appleby-Doran, Directress of Altar Guild, Dies at 92

Services are this week.

Eleanor (Cooke) Appleby-Doran, 92, of Harwich Port and formerly of Sudbury, died on January 6, 2016 at the Pleasant Bay Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Brewster.

Ellie was born on March 10, 1923, in Waterbury, CT, the only daughter of Roderick William and Alice Madeline (Shackley) Cooke.

She graduated from Post Junior College in CT and Northeastern University. Ellie was a longtime resident of Sudbury before moving to Harwich Port in 1977. She was devoted to her faith and served as Eucharistic Minister, Directress of Altar Guild, Coordinator of Pastoral Ministry Group and choir member of Christ Church in Harwich Port. Ellie was a former member of St. Elizabeth’s in Sudbury and served as Directress of Altar Guild and choir member.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane Holmes of CA, Hollis Stevens of South Weymouth, Robin Shaw of Harwich Port; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Lewis Appleby, in 1969; by her son, Craig Appleby, in 2011; and by her recent husband, John F. Doran, in 2015.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 12 at 12PM at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, 1 Morse Road, Sudbury.

Interment will be at New Town Cemetery, Sudbury, and a reception will follow at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury.

Calling hours will be held Monday, January 11 from 4-8PM at the Duckett-J. S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
