SUDBURY, MA — Flu season has arrived in Massachusetts, but relatively few residents are vaccinated against the seasonal virus, which can pose serious health risks.

As of this week, just under 9 percent of state residents had received a new flu vaccine, according to the state Department of Public Health. But Sudbury residents can help improve that figure a little bit at a free flu shot clinic this weekend.

On Saturday, the Sudbury Board of Health will offer flu vaccines to anyone over age 9 at Curtis Middle School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find an appointment slot here: https://tinyurl.com/TownClinic2023. Shots are free, but residents should bring health insurance cards if available.

This is the second flu shot clinic the board of health has held this season following one for seniors last week.

Flu shots typically take about two weeks to reach full strength in the body. Flu activity is still pretty low in Massachusetts and Middlesex County as of the week ending Sept. 30, according to state data.
