SUDBURY, MA — The town is lifting some restrictions on a low-cost local taxi and rideshare program that helps vulnerable people get to the doctor, go shopping and other necessary appointments.

Starting March 1, residents will be able to take up to 10 subsidized one-way rides or five round-trip rides using the rideshare service Uber.

In January, Sudbury reduced the number of Uber rides to four one-way rides per month (two round-trip) as part of larger cutbacks due to a funding shortfall. A restriction on regular taxi rides will remain in March at six one-way rides per month (or three roundtrip rides).

Rides via yellow cab are free using Go Sudbury!, but Uber rides require a copay starting at $3 for trips under five miles. The program also has some age and residency requirements. Find full details on the town website.

Go Sudbury! has been in operation since 2020 using a combination of state and town-appropriated funds. Although Sudbury is part of the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority service area, the bus system does not have any stops in town, leaving residents who don't own cars limited options for getting around.
