SUDBURY, MA — By Saturday morning, Tropical Storm Elsa was far to our northeast and quickly disintegrating — but the storm left a lot of inundated basements, soggy yards and flooded roadways in its wake.

The National Weather Service has released rainfall totals from the daylong storm, and it appears an area between Sudbury and Westwood got the biggest soaking. Those two towns came in just shy of 4 inches each.

But rain totals varied greatly by region, with almost no rainfall on Cape Cod, and plenty of spots with just 2 inches in Essex County. Two rainfall records were broken on Friday. Worcester hit 2.47 inches, breaking the 1964 record for July 10 of 1.15 inches. At 2.04 inches, Providence broke the 1962 record of 1.31 inches.
