Just 2 Sudbury Flu Clinics Left In 2022

A potentially severe flu season may hit the Northern Hemisphere this winter after two mild years during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SUDBURY, MA — Flu season is fast approaching, and some health experts say it could be worse in 2022-23 than the previous two flu seasons that were relatively mild due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sudbury will offer two more town-sponsored flu shot clinics this month before peak flu season around the December holidays and the first few months of the new year. The town has already hosted three prior clinics this fall.

The town is asking eligible residents — anyone over age 9 — to sign up for a time slot before heading to the remaining clinics:

  • Oct. 13, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., lower Town Hall, 322 Concord Road
  • Oct. 19, 2 to 5 p.m., Curtis Middle School, 22 Pratts Mill Road

Flu season in the Northern Hemisphere typically lasts between October and April. But the Southern Hemisphere is just ending its 2022 flu season. Countries like Australia have recorded some of the worst flu seasons in recent years, an indicator of possible virus trends.

The flu seasons in 2020 and 2021 were some of the mildest in the Northern Hemisphere in recent years — largely due to precautions like masking and social distancing put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
