SUDBURY, MA — A Lexington educator will likely be the next Lincoln-Sudbury High School principal and superintendent following a vote of the school committee Wednesday.

Lexington High School Principal Andrew Stephens was picked by the Lincoln-Sudbury committee to take over for outgoing principal Bella Wong. The committee will now enter into contract negotiations with Stephens ahead of his formal acceptance of the position.

Stephen received almost unanimous support from the committee. Member Cara Endyke Doran voted to hire Wayland High School Principal Allyson Mizoguchi. Wellesley High School Principal Jamie Chisum was also in the running, but did not receive any votes.

Stephens took over as the Lexington principal in 2017, but was a principal at Duxbury and Hull high schools before that. He also served as an assistant headmaster at Newton South High School.

"I felt like he really brought the passion, but he was also rigorous in his logic when he answered our questions," member Harold Engstrom said in explaining Andrews as his choice.

Longtime Lincoln-Sudbury principal and superintendent Bella Wong announced in October she would leave at the end of the 2022-23 school year. Wong began her tenure in July 2013, but was a science teacher and department coordinator at Lincoln-Sudbury from 1991 to 1998.

The superintendent search process kicked off at the end of 2022 with the formation of a search committee. After announcing the finalists on March 23, Lincoln-Sudbury hosted them for meetings with parents, students and staff, and held board interviews last week.

Stephens will officially take over on July 1, pending contract negotiations. He verbally accepted the job during Wednesday's meeting.
