MIDDLESEX COUNTY, MA — State police announced a sobriety checkpoint will be conducted on public roads in Middlesex County on Saturday and Sunday.

"The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public's awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," police said in a statement.

The timing and location of the checkpoints will not be disclosed. Police said the "selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary" and that they will minimize inconveniences to drivers.
