SUDBURY, MA — Time is running out for Sudbury residents and local organizations to apply for Community Preservation Act funding in the next fiscal year.

The Sudbury Community Preservation Committee is accepting CPC funding applications now through Oct. 6. Proposals will then be reviewed by the committee for possible inclusion on the spring 2024 town meeting warrant for funding approval.

CPC projects have to fall into one of three categories: acquiring, rehabilitating or preserving open space or creating new recreational facilities; preserving or restoring historic resources; or preserving, creating or restoring housing.

Sudbury adopted the CPC in 2002, creating a 3% property tax surcharge to fund the local CPC account. The local surcharge is supplemented by annual distributions from a larger state CPC fund.

Applications for CPC funding are due to the town by 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 6. Public hearings on the proposals will follow in November and December. Any project that makes it through the process and town meeting would be eligible for funding in fiscal year 2025, which begins July 1.
