SUDBURY, MA — A new restaurant in Sudbury was granted key approvals by the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night, making way for a planned opening before the end of the year.

The Selectmen approved liquor, entertainment and common victualler licenses for The Farmer's Daughter, which will open at the Meadow Walk shopping plaza, 534 Boston Post Road. This is an expansion for head chef Chandra Gouldrup, who opened the first location in North Easton in 2013.

The North Easton restaurant specializes in brunch and lunch — in 2018 it was named the best brunch spot south of Boston by Boston Magazine — made with locally soured ingredients. Goldrup told the Selectmen on Tuesday's she is looking forward to using local farmers markets, highlighting Mainstone Farm in Wayland.

The 4,000 square-foot Sudbury restaurant would have a seating capacity of about 110 people — including about 36 outdoor seats — and will be able to host live entertainment. The restaurant will be open weekdays 8 a.m. to 2 p.m, and weekends 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to plans submitted to the Selectmen.

The Massachusetts restaurant industry has taken a serious hit during the coronavirus pandemic, with an estimated 3,600 restaurant closures, according to the Massachusetts Restaurant Association.

But Sudbury has somewhat of an advantage over other communities. The town is at the lowest risk level, according to state health officials, and is being allowed to move to the next phase of reopening — that includes higher indoor dining levels, and the opening of indoor entertainment venues. The statewide limit on indoor public gatherings remains capped at 25, however.
