SUDBURY, MA — New Year's Eve in 2021 won't be a full return to normal thanks to surging coronavirus cases linked to the omicron variant. But end-of-year celebrations are back in a much bigger way compared to 2020.

Here are some events and activities happening near Sudbury this year, including the return of the biggest event in the region: First Night in downtown Boston, which didn't happen in-person on Dec. 31, 2020.

Countdown To New Year's Eve, Sudbury — The Goodnow Library will host craft-making events on Thursday for young people (library is closed on Friday). Attendees need to register in advance.

New Year's Eve 80s Prom, Marlborough — Tackle Box Brewing Company will host a DJ spinning 80s music, and a dinner. This is a closed, ticketed event.

New Years Eve at Firefly's, Marlborough — This Marlborough BBQ spot will host local band The Deloreans on Friday beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Cochituate Rail Trail New Year’s Eve, Natick — There will be fire pits set up along the trail in Natick from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

Morse Tavern New Year's Eve, Natick — Local band Zcompany will rock in the new year at the downtown watering hole.

Dave & Buster's New Year's Eve, Natick — Head to the Natick Mall arcade and bar for a family-friendly event on Friday afternoon.

United India Association of New England Ball, Framingham — This reservation-only event will feature food, dancing and more at the Sheraton in Framingham.

New Year's Eve Pop-Up At Lavin's Liquors, Wayland — The Cousins Maine Lobster food truck and Simply Scrunch Co. will be at the local liquor store from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Family Friendly New Year's Eve Party, Hopkinton — This 3 to 5 p.m. event on Friday will feature hot chocolate, ice sculpting and more for kids and adults.

Booty & The Jett New Year's Day, Marlborough — If you're able, head to Marlborough's Lost Shoe Brewing on Saturday for a performance that's been over a year in the making.

New Year's Eve Bonfire, Holliston — Head to the Holliston Community Farm for a big fire to say goodbye to 2021. This event is ticketed.

New Year's Party with Teter Todders, Milford — This ticketed event at the Central Tavern will feature food, live music and even discounted limo rides.

First Night, Boston — The largest local New Year's Eve celebration will feature a full day of music, entertainment and food in and around Back Bay. The city's fireworks show begins at 7:01 p.m., followed by the Inner Harbor fireworks show at midnight.

Worcester Common Ice Oval — The rink behind Worcester City Hall has extended hours all week due to school break. The rink will be open until 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Hotel Vernon New Year's Eve, Worcester — Head to the famed Kelley Square bar for a night of music, poetry and drinks.

Lock 50 New Year's Eve, Worcester — This Canal District restaurant will have NYE dinner specials, and has outdoor dining igloos for added coronavirus safety.

New Year's Eve Dance Party with Chuck Perks, Worcester — A no-cover dance party will happen on NYE featuring music from the 80s, 90s and 2000s hosted by Chuck Perks.

Lester Grooves New Year's at Birchtree Bread, Worcester — The Canal District restaurant and bakery will have live music Friday evening before the ball drops.
