An Iconic, ironic view in Sudbury

I have been a resident of Sudbury for ten years now and exploring every wonderful exploration of the views I observe in this wonderful typically New England town. One of my fvorite views is from Tippling Rock on Nobscot Hill. I also frequent the falls at Stearns Mill on Dutton Road. However the subject of this article is not those special places, it is right down from where I live off Route 20.

It is at the intersection of the Boston Post Road and Horsepond Road. You may get the irony of what I photographed right away if you are intuitive. Often I see posts of various types and depecting messages of all kinds in the surrounding towns on utility poles.

This one really struck me one day in my travels. Here is a really well used and conspicuous spot in Sudbury with oh my gosh all those nails and staples in it. There were large sheets of florescent colored poster board on each side of the pole which I removed. The message on them was "Free Stuff" and an arrow pointing down Horsepond Road.

I pulled of to the side of the road, grabbed my digital Fugi-film camera and shot this photo! Low and behold the ironic picture of the nail and staple loaded utility pole and the stop sign right next to it. I got the immediate feeling of times long ago that said; "post no bills!" You would see that sign here and there back in the day.

There you have it folks, a view of Sudbury, so obvious yet so inconspicuous. It leaves me with the thought what else is there in this metro west town that meets the eye of one curious observer as me. Maybe I just need to keep on looking! By; Dan Cetrone Uplook Drive
