Sudbury, Wayland Firefighters Respond To Group Home Fire

The fire broke out Tuesday afternoon in a mulch pile amid a red flag warning in Massachusetts.

SUDBURY, MA — Firefighters from across the region responded to a two-alarm fire Tuesday in Maynard that badly damaged a residential group home.

The fire broke out near 12:30 p.m. outside a building a 4 2nd St. in a neighborhood southeast of downtown Maynard. The fire likely began in a pile of mulch outside the home, the department said.

The fire then spread to the building, triggering a second alarm. Firefighters from Sudbury, Boxborough, Concord, Acton, Hudson, Stow and Wayland responded to help Maynard with the fire and coverage of the town.

No one was injured in the fire, but the group home residents were displaced.

The fire broke out amid a red flag warning in Massachusetts. Fire danger was heightened across the state Tuesday with gusty winds and low humidity. Brush fires sprang up across the state Tuesday, including in Marlborough and outside Beverly Hospital.
