Fugakyu has been open for more than a decade in the Barnstead Shoppes plaza near Horse Pond Road. The Sudbury location is part of a small chain of Asian restaurants in the area, including a Fugakyu in Brookline, which is still open. A Fugakyu location was also opened in Lynnfield about a decade ago, but has since closed.

The Fugakyu restaurants were also associated with East Ocean City and Kaze Shabu Shabu in Boston's Chinatown, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. East Ocean City closed in 2017.
