SUDBURY, MA — Two homes in Sudbury were broken into over the past two days, and police believe the crimes may be connected to similar ones nearby targeting people of Indian and South Asian descent.

The two local burglaries happened along Twin Pond Lane and Cudworth Lane. The burglar broke in through a second floor window in each case, and both homes are owned by people of Indian descent.

Similar crimes — including the use of the second-floor to gain entry — targeting Indian residents in Lincoln, Natick, Weston, Wellesley and several other local communities have gained attention from law enforcement, including the FBI.

"Residential break-ins are infrequent for Sudbury, but regionally there is an increase exhibiting similar patterns. Specifically, evidence suggests that entry was gained through a 2nd floor window at both homes. This is consistent with an ongoing residential break-in investigation, where often the victims are of South Asian and/or Indian descent. We ask anyone whom may have observed suspicious activity in either area, please contact Sudbury police detectives," Sudbury police said in a social media post Tuesday afternoon.

Sudbury police also suggested homeowners take extra steps to prevent burglaries, like having alarm systems, locking doors and windows on all floors and taking steps to make the home look occupied while away — like collecting mail and keeping the lawn mowed.
