Well-Known Bakery Owner John DeMarinis Dies at 82 After Battle With Alzheimer's

DeMarinis owned bakeries in Framingham, Marlborough and Sudbury.

SUDBURY, MA—John DeMarinis, Jr. of Marlboro and formerly of Framingham, Massachusetts died Sunday, July 31, 2016 in Ashland following a brave battle with Alzheimer's. He was 82 and the husband of Anna E. (Brogna) DeMarinis his beloved wife of 59 years. John was well-known in the community having owned and operated bakeries in Framingham, Marlboro, and Sudbury since 1955.

Born in Boston on June 17, 1934, the son of the late John DeMarinis Sr. and Carmella (Rotondi) DeMarinis, he grew up in Avellino Italy and at the age of 14 returned to the United State where he began working in his uncle's bakery on Hanover Street in the North End of Boston. In 1955 at the age of 20, he opened John and Son Italian Bakery in Framingham, which he operated until 1998. During his career, he established a second bakery in Marlboro (1976 - 1984) and a third bakery in Sudbury (1999 - 2003) which he operated with his son John. Over the years he enjoyed teaching baking classes at both Keefe Technical School in Framingham and Assabet Valley Technical High School in Marlboro. In addition to his wife Anna, John is survived by his son Michael A. DeMarinis of Hopedale Massachusetts, daughter Janice D. Nelson and her husband Peter of Tampa, Florida, and his daughter-in-law Faith DeMarinis of Bellingham Massachusetts.

He also leaves his grandchildren; Maxwell R. and Peter John "PJ" Nelson of Tampa, McKay J. Calabrese of Hopedale, and Micah and Rebecca L. DeMarinis of Bellingham. He was pre-deceased by his son John DeMarinis III, his brother Louis Marino, and his sisters Celia Osborne, Mena Cramer, and Frances Rose. John was a long time member of St. Anselm Parish.

A Funeral Mass in celebration of his life will be held at St Anselm Church on Saturday, August 6, at 10:00 am followed by an interment in St. Steven's Cemetery, Framingham. Visiting hours will be Friday, August 5, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Duckett-J.S.Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road Sudbury. Memorial donations in John's name may be sent in lieu of flowers to St. Anselm Parish, 100 Landham Rd., Sudbury, MA 01776 or to the Hearthstone Alzheimer's Family Foundation, 130 Boston St., Suite 103, Woburn, MA 01601.
