SUDBURY, MA — A tapas-style restaurant is planning to open in the space formerly occupied by Fugakyu Café, which closed its Boston Post Road spot more than a year ago.

The Sudbury Select Board on Tuesday will hold a hearing on a liquor license for Zayith Tapas and Bar. The two-floor restaurant will take over the 621 Boston Post Road Fugakyu space.

Sudbury Weekly first reported the incoming tapas on Friday. The restaurant owners told the outlet that Zayith will serve a "mosaic of small plates inspired by the rich gastronomic heritage of France, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, Morocco, Egypt, Spain, Italy and the larger Mediterranean region."

Fugakyu had been open for more than a decade in the Barnstead Shoppes plaza near Horse Pond Road. The Sudbury location is part of a small chain of Asian restaurants in the area, including a Fugakyu in Brookline, which is still open according to the website. A Fugakyu location was also opened in Lynnfield about a decade ago, but has since closed.

The Fugakyu restaurants were also associated with East Ocean City and Kaze Shabu Shabu in Boston's Chinatown, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. East Ocean City closed in 2017.
