Uber, MADD Offer Free Rides In Wenham Wednesday Night

More than 800 people died in drunken crashes over the Thanksgiving weekend between 2012 and 2016, according to MADD.

WENHAM, MA -- Wenham is among the 58 Massachusetts communities where Uber will partner with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to offer free rides Wednesday night. With more than 800 people killed over the holiday weekend between 2012 and 2016, MADD declared Thanksgiving "the deadliest holiday on our roads."

"We want to make it easy for riders to make Uber their designated driver, get home safely, and keep everyone else on the roads safe as well," Persis Elavia, Uber's general manager for New England, said in a statement.

Under the promotion, residents in the designated towns can enter the code "SAFERIDEMA18" in the "Add Promo/Gift Code" tab on the Uber app to unlock a free ride up to $15. The promotion runs from 9 pm Wednesday to 6 am Thursday, and the number of rides available is limited.
