3K Minutes Separate Reading Rivals Wilmington, Tewksbury

Tewksbury expanded its lead in the library reading competition over the last week.

TEWKSBURY, MA — The Tewksbury Public Library has extended its lead in the inaugural Reading Rivals competition with the Wilmington Memorial Library, the Wilmington library said Monday.

Tewksbury has logged 208,383 minutes since the challenge began Oct. 12, to Wilmington's 205,827.

It remains close, but a week ago the two libraries were separated by just three minutes.

The competition will continue until Nov. 24, after which the "Reading Cup" will be awarded to the town that logged more minutes.

Residents of each town can register on Beanstack to read for their library Tewksbury or Wilmington. You can log hours spent reading on Beanstack.

Wilmington Memorial noted that the library has 388 readers participating, to Tewksbury's 493.

"So, if we're talking minutes per patron we're crushing it," the library said. "We also have already DOUBLED our community goal of 100,000 minutes. WAY TO GO!"

Both libraries have weekly prizes for participating patrons.
