Boy, 14, Accused Of Pulling Gun On Mail Carrier In Tewksbury

Police say the incident occurred in the 400 block of Shawsheen Street just after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

TEWKSBURY, MA — A 14-year-old boy from Lowell is facing charges after being accused of pulling a gun on a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier before fleeing from a vehicle in Tewksbury Tuesday morning.

The boy, whose name is being withheld as he is a juvenile, was identified as a suspect Thursday and arrested and taken into custody around 2 p.m. after police found him in Lowell.

The incident occurred in the 400 block of Shawsheen Street just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, after which authorities arrived to find the car speeding on Whipple Road, according to the Tewksbury Police Department.

Police said they followed the car to Tomahawk Drive, "at which point the driver bailed out of the vehicle and ran away" before being last seen by a witness on Nightengale Lane.

Following reports of the incident, a Tewksbury police K-9 recovered a firearm behind a home on Grasshopper Lane, which was believed to be the suspect's.

At that point, a joint effort was launched by the Massachusetts State Police Airwing, Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team, Drones, and K-9s to search for the suspect before he was found about two days later.

The 14-year-old is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Lowell Juvenile Court.
