Driver Killed In Single-Car Crash On I-495 In Tewksbury

A man from Maine was found ejected from a car that rolled over onto the median early Sunday morning, Massachusetts State Police said.

TEWKSBURY, MA — A driver on Interstate 495 was killed early Sunday morning in a one-car crash under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.

State police found an adult man from Maine ejected from a 2007 Mercury Mariner that was rolled over into the median north of exit 38 in the southbound lanes of the interstate at 12:38 a.m., according to a news release.

The man was taken to Lowell General Hospital and pronounced dead, police said. He had not been identified as of later on Sunday.

Police said they are investigating whether excessive speed was a factor in the crash. An early indication is the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, according to police.

No other vehicles were involved in the wreck, the release states. Lane closures affected traffic on I-495 for two hours during the initial crash investigation, police said.
