BILLERICA, MA — A portion of a main road in Billerica was set to be closed Monday because of a special FBI search focusing on the Concord River.

The FBI’s Underwater Search and Evidence Response Team was set to begin searching the river starting around 9 a.m. Monday.

During the search, one lane of River Street — a main road connecting Route 3 and Route 3A — will remain closed. The FBI did not disclose what the dive team is searching for, except that there's no threat to the public.

"In the interest of allaying any public concerns, [the dive team] is not looking for human remains and there is no associated threat to public safety," the FBI said Monday morning.

The search is linked to an ongoing investigation by FBI agents based in Boston, according to the agency.
