Massachusetts Third Best in Country for Working Dads

WalletHub recently released its Best and Worst States for Working Dads.

Father’s Day is on the way, and the spotlight is on the dads in our lives. And according to a recent survey, Massachusetts is an excellent place to be a working dad.

With this, WalletHub, a personal finance website, conducted an in-depth analysis on the Best and Worst States for Working Dads.

Nearly 93 percent of dads in the labor force have children younger than 18, reported WalletHub.

“In order to help dads balance their dual role as parent and provider, WalletHub analyzed the work-life balance, health conditions, financial well-being and child-rearing environments for working dads in the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia,” said WalletHub in an announcement.

WalletHub used 20 key metrics, which ranged from the unemployment rate for dads with kids younger than 18 to male life expectancy to day care quality.

With 1 being the best, and 25 being average, the following is Massachusetts rank in various categories:

  • 5th – Median Income for Families (Dad Present) with Kids Younger than 18 Years, Adjusted for Cost of Living
  • 6th – Male Life Expectancy at Birth
  • 4th – Percentage of Dads with Kids Younger than 18 Living in Poverty
  • 1st – Male Uninsured Rate
  • 10th – Mean Hours Worked per Day Among Males
  • 12th – Mortality Rate due to Heart Disease per 100,000 Men
  • 9th – Percentage of Men Who Report Adequate or Any Physical Activity
  • 17th – Day Care Quality

Massachusetts trailed only Minnesota and New Hampshire as the best states for working dads, with Vermont and New Jersey close behind the Bay State. Arkansas, Nevada and Mississippi ranked worst in the analysis.
